Williams Makes the Transition Into Formula 500s:

Liam Williams’ first steps into the Formula 500 class have been relative successful ones for the young driver after two meetings at the Laang Speedway in Victoria last month (May).

In his opening two meetings in the class, the 19-year-old has performed steadily and even landed on the podium in third place at the most recent meeting. It did not take him long to reach the winners circle either as he first tasted success when he won a heat race at that same meeting.

“The Formula 500s are a great class to compete in, and I’ve enjoyed my experience so far and the results I’ve achieved have been very encouraging,” Williams said.

“My results from the outset have given me plenty of confidence for the future, and I feel that with more experience on board I can develop into a consistent front runner, but at this early stage I’m not going to get too carried away with myself and just take things one step at a time.”

After success in both Speedway Go Karting and Junior Sedans, Williams took a two year break from racing to concentrate on his university studies, and also save funds for a full tilt in Formula 500s down the track.

“I took the two year break to concentrate on my studies but also get all the money I needed together so I had all of the necessary equipment to be a front runner in Formula 500s,” added Williams.

“I didn’t just want to start in Formula 500s without a strong car package, and I worked hard to put together a solid outfit, and it has so far paid dividends going by my opening two meetings.”

Williams is campaigning a brand-new RTS car which is powered by a Yamaha R6 engine.

“There are still a few things I need to get used to in order to build more speed when driving a Formula 500,” Williams commented.

“Like adjusting to the speed of the car and feel confident enough to drive close up next to someone else on the track.”

Despite this, Williams’ step up into the Formula 500’s has been considerably successful despite only having participated in two meetings.

“I’m really happy with my results so far, I’m only just starting in this class so I look forward to next season where I’ll be able to build on my form and gain more experience,” concluded Williams.

Williams would like to say a special thanks to his Dad (John Williams) for all his ongoing support, along with sponsors: AutoBarn – Narrewarren, Pedders Suspension – Dandenong, D&F Race Products, Thermo-Glaze Bath Re-surfacing, Hi-Tec Bathroom Maintenance, 3D Paint City – Narrewarren, Jet-co Engine Developments, and Performance Metals.
