Rookie Eager to Get Amongst the Action in 2007/08 Season:

Joining the Victorian Formula 500 ranks late last season done two things for Liam Williams, one was that it gave him plenty of confidence heading the 2007/08 season, and two was that it left him ever so wanting the off season to end as quickly as possible.

This Saturday night (November 24) at Premier Speedway in Warrnambool for the running of the annual Jack Willsher Cup, the off season blues will come to an end for Williams, and it will kick off what promises to be a very hectic debut Formula 500 season.

“The off season was very annoying, as I had some good first up results late last season in my first two shows, and then the season ended, and there was little to do with the car as it had been prepared for the final two meetings of last season,” the 19-year-old said.

“I’m very much looking forward to getting back behind the wheel, and I feel confident I can make a good account of myself from the get go, especially after my encouraging two meetings of last season, so I’ll see how things pan out.”

During the off season Williams and his team have developed the Yamaha R600cc engine in his # 62 RTS car with Jettco Development’s Stephen Bell in order to help get the car on the money at the Jack Willsher Cup event

“Belly [Stephen Bell] has done some good things with our engine package during the off season, so we will see if everything we have done theory wise can be put into practice,” mentioned Williams.

“The Jack Willsher Cup holds a lot of prestige and that is no doubt extra motivation to do well in it, but the main focus is to just get through the meeting with consistent pace and the car in one piece, and anything after that will be just a bonus.”

The plan for Williams and his team for the 2007/08 season are to contest the entire Oval Express Series, along with the Australian Title, Victoria and South Australian State Titles, and selected rounds of the Victorian Stampede Series.

“Our schedule for this season is quite ambitious, but one I’m very much looking forward to, and these events are certainly going to prove quite challenging,” said the ex Junior Sedan and Speedway Kart racer.

“I want to build up speed with each event I contest, and by the end of the season I want to be a consistent front runner, and I feel the package I have will give me the best opportunity to do so.”

Williams can take plenty of confidence from his first two runs in a Formula 500 late last season, as in that brief period he managed to win a heat race and also score a feature race podium finish, and are no doubt going to make him one rookie driver to keep an eye on.

Williams would like to say a special thanks to his Dad (John Williams) for all his ongoing support, along with 2007/08 season sponsors: AutoBarn – Narrewarren, Pedders Suspension – Dandenong, D&F Race Products, Thermo-Glaze Bath Re-surfacing, Hi-Tec Bathroom Maintenance, 3D Paint City – Narrewarren, Jettco Developments, and Performance Metals.
