Williams Returns to the Podium in Formula 500s

After winning the previous round of the Victorian Formula 500 Stampede Series, Liam Williams scored yet another pleasing result in the series by placing third during the seventh round on the Saturday night at Blue Ribbon Speedway in Horsham.

Starting the feature race from position three, Williams spent the opening laps fending off challengers for third place before pulling away from his rivals to run clearly in third place. In a feature race that was riddled with caution periods, Williams was unable to finish any higher than third place on the podium despite being battling closely for second place in the closing laps.

Earlier in the night Williams had to do a lot of passing after starting all three of his heat races from rear of the field, due to being the previous round winner the highest point scorer heading into the third and final heat race, Despite these obstacles Williams still managed to bring home three credible results of second, fifth and sixth place.

“It was a tough night as I had to fight my way from the back of the field in my three heat races and in the feature race I managed to get going and came home with a third place finish,” Williams expressed.

“The opening laps of the feature race saw me lose a lot of ground on the leaders as I was caught in a few battles, so that saw me getting going too late.”

The previous weekend Williams finished a hard fought fifth place during the running of the Non Winged Nationals at Laang Speedway after he managed to fight his way back after spinning on the opening lap, after starting from position 11 in the field, and was sent rear of field as a consequence.

Williams was in the wars during his heat races, when in his opening heat he spun out while battling for second and finished back in ninth, and during his second and final heat race saw him flip onto his side while running third. Williams was able to restart due to minimal damage sustained in the crash and finished in fifth place.

The next race for Williams will be the eighth round of the Victorian Stampede Series at Western Speedway in Hamilton - Victoria this Saturday night (April 12).
